Federal law requires all students, including students with the most significant cognitive disabilities, have access to the general education curriculum and be provided with standards aligned instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, and science, regardless of location or placement. As such, Building Capacity and Promoting Instruction through Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) provides participants with information that supports accessible, standards aligned instruction that is appropriate and meaningful for students with significant cognitive disabilities. Participants will gain knowledge of the:
- DLM instruction and assessment system including an instructional planning tool
- Comprehensive system of professional development and accessible, instructional resources provided by DLM
- Connection between instructional planning, DLM instructional resources, and student learning. Examples of units/lessons are provided.
- Connection of learning meaningful content to increased post-secondary opportunities.
Objectives
At the end of this training, participants will:
- Understand the value of Dynamic Learning Maps as a comprehensive system of instruction, assessment and professional development resources that provides access to standards aligned instruction for students with significant cognitive disabilities and leads to improved learner outcomes.
- Identify key terminology of DLM.
- Be able to locate and use existing lessons or develop new lessons and units using DLM instructional tools and resources.
Target Audience
This course is for teachers and administrators who support the instruction of students with significant cognitive disabilities. Specifically, this is for individual educational professionals new to their role and who did not previously participate in the statewide rollout of Building Capacity and Promoting Instruction through PASA DLM with their district and IU partners.
Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate individuals who have special needs as addressed by the Americans with Disabilities Act and who need assistance at this event. Contact: Xiamara Monroe at
