School-wide Effective Behavior Support (SWEBS)
This training focuses on designing school-wide behavior plans with the goal of preventing problem behavior, thereby increasing the time spent on instruction and increasing student achievement. This training series highlights research-based methods for managing student behavior from both behavioral and instructional points of view. SWEBS, at its core, is instructional in nature, with an emphasis on effective instruction for behavioral skills as well as general school curricula.

The concept personifies building local capacity. It brings school-wide teams and intermediate unit consultants together for multi-year, intensive in-service training, including on-site guided practice. The combination of centralized training days at PaTTAN and the on-sites that occur in your school building, results in measurable change for schools, classrooms, teachers, and students.Effective school-wide behavior support is based upon three components that must be well planned and support student learning. Instructional design and delivery Classroom management School-wide rules and procedures Behavior Assessment and Intervention Series Team Training This team training series guides an individual student's team through the process of behavior assessment, developing, implementing, and revising behavior intervention plans, and progress monitoring. Teams receive instruction in: Identifying environmental factors (antecedents and consequences) that affect behavior Data collection techniques designed to provide information useful to assessment and intervention Methods for using assessment information to logically determine functions of behavior Methods for developing and implementing effective behavioral interventions Efficient and effective progress monitoring used to guide decision-making Behavior Interventions for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing This training focuses on the essential link between instruction and classroom behavior as it relates to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

By combining research-based principles and strategies from the fields of behavior support and effective instruction, school personnel can prevent much of the disruptive behavior that occurs in classrooms. This training includes extensive effective instructional strategies and techniques.

Model Emotional Support Classrooms
PaTTAN is currently developing a Coaching Model for providing support in developing effective Emotional Support Classrooms.  The outcomes for this model are as follows:
PaTTAN/IU Consultants:

  • Develop a coaching versus a consultation model for academic and behavior support in ES classrooms within the PaTTAN system and as part of the School Intervention Model that will be shared with IU consultants.
  • Build PaTTAN/IU consultant skill levels in coaching within the ES classrooms.
  • Develop a training model for supporting ES teachers in the implementation and integration of effective behavior support and effective instruction for students.

Classroom/School/IU Staff:

  • Build capacity for classroom/school/IU staff in supporting students in ES classrooms using evidence-based academic and behavior strategies based on assessment.
  • Develop classroom/school/IU staff skills in the areas of classroom management, effective instruction, assessment and development of interventions, progress monitoring, and effective behavior support.
  • Build capacity within the School Leadership team in supporting ES teachers and students in order to increase academic and behavior achievement.
