Curriculum
In Pennsylvania's Response to Intervention framework, curriculum, instruction, and assessment are intricately linked at all three tiers.
Curriculum refers to a comprehensive, written, planned course of instruction, or the "what" of teaching and provides guidance to teachers about content, instructional strategies, and desirable levels of student performance in a grade by grade sequence. District curricula directly aligned to the PA Academic Standards and the Pennsylvania Assessment Anchor Content Standards in Reading, Math, and Science enable schools to provide relevant and rigorous instruction in content area concepts and competencies to increase student achievement and prepare each student for life roles outside of school.
In addition to being aligned with Standards and Assessment Anchors, quality curricula is delivered by highly qualified teachers using research-based practices, and research based core, supplemental, and intervention programs. Tier 1-Foundational instruction is provided to all students using the standards aligned core curriculum and research based core programs. Students receiving Tiers 2 or 3 intervention are provided instruction in addition to core using supplemental and intervention programs, with regular monitoring of progress to guide instruction.
