Curriculum
Curriculum drives theeducational program that is individualized for students withdisabilities. Most students with disabilities have success in learningthe same content as non-disabled peers with a range of learningaccommodations. Other students may require some modifications to thecurriculum to address their specific needs. The key issue for theeducational team is designing an effective program that assists thestudent to learn and socialize with non-disabled peers to the greatestextent possible.
In order to access the general educationcurriculum, students with visual impairments may require access tospecialized tools and specially designed instruction. These tools mightinclude Braille or enlarged print materials, auditory materials, lowvision aids, and other assistive technology resources. In addition toinstruction in the general curriculum, visually impaired students mayrequire the addition of an expanded core curriculum.
