Assessment

Effective tutoring programs include the following assessment components:

Summative, diagnostic and formative assessment measures are critical to monitoring student achievement.

  • Summative:  Summarize what students have learned at the conclusion of an instructional segment
  • Diagnostic:  Typically precede instruction. Used to check students' prior knowledge and skill levels.
  • Formative:  Occur concurrently with instruction. Provide specific feedback to teachers and students for the purpose of guiding teaching to improve learning.

A student is eligible for tutoring services if he/she:

  1. Tested below proficient on the prior year's PSSA reading or math assessment
  2. Tested below the equivalent of proficient on another PDE approved assessment
