Educational Interpreters
An educational interpreter is defined as an individual who transliterates and/or interprets educational content, and facilitates communication between students who are identified as deaf or hard of hearing (on their IEP) and others in order to access the general education curriculum, including all aspects of the students educational program.
Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network ( PaTTAN) provides training opportunities for educational interpreters who are employed in school districts, intermediate units, and approved private schools. The Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Bureau of Special Education continue to encourage the use of the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) as an instrument to determine the qualifications of individuals working, or seeking employment, as educational interpreters.
