Intensive Interagency Support Process

Which Students Require Intensive Interagency Support?
A student should be considered for Intensive Interagency support when:

  • The student's parents and local education agency have both recognized that the student's program and/or placement is not appropriate to meet his or her needs
  • The student has experienced, or is at risk of experiencing, a delay of 30 days or more in obtaining the services and/or placement that he or she needs

What Happens After a Student is Identified for Intensive Interagency Support?
Local Education Agencies are required to identify and report to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) all students for whom they are experiencing difficulty providing appropriate educational services. The following steps are then taken:

  1. Once the student is reported by the district, PDE forwards the information to the Regional Interagency Coordinator.
  2. The Regional Interagency Coordinator assists in resolving the issues in the local education agency and all other relevant child serving agencies. An interagency team meeting may be convened to identify and resolve issues.
  3. In the event the local Interagency Team is not able to identify an appropriate program and the barriers involve funding or policy issues, the Regional Interagency Coordinator requests assistance from the Bureau of Special Education and Department of Welfare representatives.
