Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are legally and ethically bound to utilize evidence-based practices (EBP) in school-based service provision. Maintaining evidence-based and ethical practices while fostering collaboration with families/teams has become increasingly difficulty due to misinformation on the internet and social media platforms. Knowing how to discern credible sources, act as a critical consumer of evidence, and guide teams to utilize EBP are essential skills. The purpose of this webinar is to help SLPs understand and apply the EBP process in school-based settings.

Objectives

  • Explain three primary reasons why SLPs need to use EBP in assessment and intervention.
  • Describe what makes a practice scientific versus pseudoscientific.
  • Identify and explain the steps of the evidence-based practice process.
  • Assign levels of evidence to sources of information.
  • Describe collaborative team process to pursue when presented with pseudoscientific requests.
