This event is part of a series of related events.

This professional development session will focus on how to improve practices for special education in accordance with regulations set forth through IDEA and Chapter 14. A particular emphasis will be placed upon the impact of various court cases that effect the implementation of special education programs and service delivery. Chapter 15, ADA, and Chapter 16, related to gifted education will be examined as well.

Objectives

  • Participants will gain an understanding of the regulatory review process for special education legislation.
  • Participants will describe the connection between IDEA and Chapter 14.
  • Participants will analyze the impact of landmark legislation in the area of special education.
  • Participants will discuss the impact of IDEA and Chapter 14 related to their current practices.
  • Participants will list key points for Chapter 15 and the draw the connection between ADA and IDEA.
  • Participants will review Chapter 16, gifted education requirements.

Target Audience

This training is specifically designed for special education administrators who have been accepted into the Special Education Fellowship Program.

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
