In addition to knowing and understanding special education law, special education leaders must have knowledge of effective programming for students with disabilities. Today´s sessions will focus on building trust, post-secondary outcomes for high school students on the Autism spectrum, strengthening programming for charter schools, PA´s alternate assessment system, navigating legal concerns, establishing climate, culture, and change, improving graduation rates for students with disabilities and the use of the Prevent-Teach-Reinforce model.


As a result of attending this day, participants will:

  1. Describe skills necessary for high school students on the Autism spectrum to access higher education.
  2. Identify three new points regarding charter school regulations.
  3. Explain tips and options on how to manage contentious meetings and minimize legal disagreements.
  4. Recognize how organizational climate, culture and change in schools improve educational results.

Target Audience

New and aspiring special education leaders, Veteran special education leaders, Anyone responsible for providing leadership to those who work with students with disabilities

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.

Full registration fee is required for each participant regardless of how many days attending.

Early-bird Registration fee: $225 (registration and payment must be received by 4:00 p.m., July 7, 2017 for early-bird fee)

Regular Registration fee: $275 (All registrations and payments must be received by 4:00 pm, July 14, 2017).
