According to Jim Knight (2018), The Impact Cycle is a process used by coaches to partner with teachers to ensure a positive impact on students’ learning. This session will provide information to Project MAX internal and external coaches about the three stages of the cycle – identify, learn, and improve. In particular, a heavy emphasis will be placed on using video to examine the current practice, development of a coaching goal, and identification of a teaching strategy. In addition, how to formulate and use questions during the coaching process will be discussed. Finally, coaches will learn a four-step process to ensure goal attainment.

Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Identify and describe the 3 stages of the impact cycle.
  2. Distinguish key features when reviewing videos of their students and themselves
  3. Identify and describe the 5 component of a PEERS goal.
  4. Create at least 3 questions to support the development of teacher insight as they work through the instructional process.
