Studies show that we must change from the “old way” of thinking about parental involvement to a “new way” of organizing programs of school, family, and community partnerships. This session will present key concepts, essential structures, and expected results of research-based programs of family and community involvement. The session prepares attendees to develop plans and practices that create a welcoming school and that engage all families—including parents of children with special needs—in ways that help students reach academic and behavioral goals for success in school.
