Standards Aligned IEP

Accessing the General Education Curriculum

Students in classroom

Students with disabilities must be provided access to the general education curriculum. This helps to ensure that students are learning the content and skills they need now and after graduation. One way that local education agencies can document access to the general education curriculum is through a standards aligned individualized education program (IEP). Students tested via the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment-Modified must have a standards aligned IEP with at least one measurable annual goal (in reading and/or mathematics depending on the student’s need) that is aligned, in whole or in part, to a grade level standard, anchor, eligible content, big idea, concept or competency.
