2017-2018 Special Education Paraprofessional Online Training Series: *
Certificate of Completion: Focus on Reading and/or Mathematics*
PaTTAN is pleased to announce this year’s training series which will enable paraprofessionals to build professional skills and knowledge critical to serving students receiving special education services. Most paraprofessionals serve students in the area of reading and mathematics in some capacity and therefore, it is imperative that paraprofessionals have an understanding of the foundations of reading and mathematics instruction in order to offer appropriate support to students. Paraprofessionals have the opportunity to print a Certificate of Completion upon finishing a series of recorded webinars in the areas of Reading and/or Mathematics.
The Certificate of Completion is:
• An avenue through which you can show your district/LEA that you have participated in a series that focuses specifically on reading and/or mathematics
• Counted toward the completion of the required 20 hours of professional development required to maintain qualified status
Optional, not required by the Bureau of Special Education or the Department of Education
• Evidenced by a printable Certificate of Completion after all webinars are completed and a signature is obtained by a local supervisor
Focus on Reading – Certificate of Completion requires learning in the following areas:
• Phonemic Awareness
• Phonics
• Vocabulary
• Fluency
• Comprehension
It is recommended that the series is completed in order listed above, but participants are able to view the videos in any order they choose.
Focus on Mathematics-Certificate of Completion requires learning in the following areas:
• Fact Fluency
• Word Problems
• Counting to Algebra
• Mathematical Literacy
After completion of each training video in each of the series, the participant can print a “Certificate of Attendance” from Framewelder using the same process to print any of the “Certificates of Attendance” from any recorded videos on the site. The five Reading Certificates of Attendance and/or four Mathematics Certificates of Attendance and a printable Certificate of Completion can be shared with a supervisor to obtain a validation signature.
Completing the series and obtaining the Certificate of Completion is solely at the discretion of each paraprofessional and/or the LEA and is not a requirement of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Special Education or the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
