Math Element Cards are a new resource for teachers and offers an instructional bridge between content and delivery for all teachers in the area of mathematics. Math Element Cards demonstrate how the PA Core Standards can be accessible for all students.
Each math element card contains a PA Connector, which is a reduced depth and breadth statement of the PA Core Standard. This connector can be a learning target aligned to the standard for students eligible to take a state alternate assessment or a ramp into the standard for struggling learners eligible for the PSSA or Keystone Exams. This resource provides foundational knowledge statements along with key vocabulary and concepts, that allow a teacher to identify and assess key knowledge that may need to be explicitly taught.

Progress Indicators are snapshot statements that provide teachers with an understanding of what proficiency ‘looks like’ towards achievement of that targeted connector and standard. PA Big Ideas and Essential Questions, a part of the PA Core Standards curriculum framework, link the connectors to the academic achievement expectations for ALL PA students. Suggested instructional strategies as well as supports and scaffold considerations are included on each card to provide ideas for instructional delivery. These suggestions and considerations, while not exhaustive, have been developed to reach a wide range of student ability to include students with the most significant disabilities. The cards are divided by grade and content.

The draft math element cards are currently under review for updates and will be reposted in the fall of 2016
