Engaging parents in the education of their students is vital to the student’s success in school. Districts have a need to proactively reach out to parents and engage them in conversations about how best to address the needs of their students. This webinar series is designed to assist local school leaders to address important topics with parents of students with disabilities. School leaders are encouraged to participate in the following webinars to further their knowledge and understanding of such special education topics.

What Parents of Students with Disabilities Need to Know About Secondary Transition

For parents of students with disabilities, the transition from school-age programming to life after high school can be overwhelming. There is a lot to learn about the supports and services available for students once they exit the school system. Indeed, early planning and discussions regarding education, employment, independent living and health and wellness are needed to ensure a smooth transition for the students and their families. During this webinar, school leaders will learn about effective practices, programming and available secondary transition resources to share with parents of students with disabilities.

For parents of students with disabilities, knowing the types of technology available to meet the individual needs of their students is vital to ensuring academic and social success. For parents of students with disabilities, an IEP is a document that contains a great deal of information which may or may not make a lot of sense to them. Being well informed as to how the IEP will be implemented is critical for parents so that they know if their children are making meaningful progress. During this webinar, school leaders will learn effective strategies for communicating with parents, sharing data and securing resources to ensure students’ IEPs are implemented with fidelity.

What Parents of Students with Disabilities Need to Know About Student Voice in the IEP Process

For parents of students with disabilities, much effort is needed to ensure that the educational programming for their children is effective. What School Leaders Need to Know About Strategies to Increase Engagement in Parent Trainings

School leaders will often take much time and effort to plan and deliver parent trainings and yet attendance at the trainings falls short of their expectations. What else can they do? Are there other strategies they should consider? During this webinar, Pennsylvania school district representatives will share their strategies for increasing engagement in parent trainings.
