At the 2013 Annual PDE Conference, Karen L. Mapp, Ed.D. addressed Building Capacity for Effective Family-School Partnerships.

Therein, Dr. Mapp provided an overview of the components needed to create and sustain systemic school/family partnerships that support student learning and school improvement. Using findings and material from “Beyond the Bake Sale”(2007) and “A Match on Dry Grass” (2011), Dr. Mapp summarized the most up-to-date information on the ways that family engagement relates to improvements in student outcomes and school improvement and the characteristics of and criteria for family engagement initiatives that are effective, sustainable, and transformative for families, school staff, students, and communities.
