This session offers a comprehensive exploration of assistive technologies tailored for AT TaC Consultants. The event will cover AAC solutions for students with CVI, short-term loan devices for Pennsylvania students, as well as AT for students who need AAC devices for communication, are deaf or hard of hearing, and/or are blind or have low vision. Emphasizing a strengths-based approach, attendees will learn to tailor communication and access strategies, as well as AAC supports. In addition, they will gain insights into the challenges faced by students with sensory needs. Through hands-on experiences and group discussions, AT TaC consultants will be equipped with practical implementation strategies to create inclusive learning environments and maximize the benefits of assistive technologies for all students.
Objectives
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Name three AAC considerations for students with CVI
- List three short-term loan options available to trial with students
- Describe three practical AT options for students who are blind or have low vision
- Explain the impact background noise has on a student who has bilateral cochlear implants and is working in small groups in the classroom
- Name three AAC apps
- List three tips for increasing AAC implementation in classrooms and outside of the school
